Language Partner: Language partners are Bangladeshi students who help BLI students practice Bangla outside the class. They not only help students with their class work but also spent time creating a bond with the students by giving them an exposure to the day to day life in Bangladesh. Language partners often introduce students to their families and friends, do cooking and shopping together as well as experiencing Dhaka and Bangladesh together.
The language partners will mostly be university students who are between 19 and 29 with some knowledge of English but a very clear understanding of Bangla as their first language. After the language partners are selected they will have to attend a mandatory daylong training workshop conducted by the course coordinators. The Language Partner Workshop is held once every academic year before the summer program commences. The training session usually covers the program overview where they are given a clear idea about the different language levels and topics covered. They are introduced to the language guidelines and the rules and regulations of their appointment. During the workshop language partners are briefed on the work hours and payments.
The Language Partner Program is not only a unique opportunity for the students learning Bangla but it is also a good professional experience for the Bangladeshi language partners.
