Language Training for Diplomats
Bangla Language Institute offers language courses for diplomats posted at different Embassies in the country. Language courses are designed to meet the needs of individual learners as well as the standards set by each embassy. Diplomats working at the US Embassy, the Canadian Embassy, and British High Commission have participated in BLI’s language training program.
The programs designed for the US Embassy follow the required proficiency scale according to the Inter-Agency Language Roundtable. Similarly, the program designed for the British High Commission and EU countries follow requirements set by the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Intensive in-country language training participation follows requirements set by each Embassy. The classroom contact hour ranges from 80-260 hours over one academic semester to one academic year.
Bangla Language Institute offers courses for Bangladeshi Heritage learners who grew up in a Bangla speaking environment or have prior exposure to the language. BLI recognizes that Heritage learners have a slightly different need than those learning Bangla for the first time.
Every year BLI hosts heritage learners through the CLS and Fulbright program. The materials and instructions in our regular programs are tailored the different learning needs that heritage learners have. Bangla Language Institute offers individual need-based courses for heritage learners who are not supported by our funded programs. Applicants are required to submit a statement of need, a self-assessment checklist and take a diagnostic test prior to the start of the program.
Bangla Language Institute offers courses for NGO professionals, Public Health researchers and the likes. Professionals on both short term and long term visits can enroll in language courses. The duration of the courses vary from 40 hours’ intensive courses over 2-3 weeks or extensive courses over 4-5 weeks during weekdays or weekends.
