Language Partner

Bangla Language Institute offers gender matched language partners to the enrolled students for informal language practice throughout the program. Students are recommended to spend about 8-20 hours with their language partners per week.
Language Partners (LP) are Bangladeshi students who help BLI students practice Bangla outside the class. Through the LPs students are exposed to the day to day life in Bangladesh. Language partners often introduce students to their families and friends, hosts the students at their home and explore Dhaka and Bangladesh together.
The language partners will mostly be university students who are between 19 and 29 with some knowledge of English and Bangla as their first language. After the language partners are selected they will have to attend a mandatory daylong training workshop conducted by the course coordinators. The Language Partner Workshop is held once every academic year before the summer program commences. The training session usually covers the program overview where they are given a clear idea about the different language levels and topics covered. They are introduced to the language guidelines and the rules and regulations of their appointment. During the workshop language partners are briefed on the work hours and payments.
The Language Partner Program is not only a unique opportunity for the students learning Bangla but it is also a good professional experience for the Bangladeshi language partners.
