Fulbright Language Training
The Fulbright program is sponsored by the United States Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs(ECA), and administered by Institute of International Education (IIE). The Fulbright program provides funding for students, scholars, teachers, and professionals to undertake graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools. Among various programs, the Fulbright U.S. Student Program offers research, study and teaching opportunities in over 140 countries to recent graduates and graduate students of which Bangladesh is one.
Bangla Language Institute in Bangladesh hosts the language training for Fulbright English Teaching Assistants (ETA) and Students Researchers during autumn and spring semesters. Since Autumn 2007, BLI has been offering this training as a component of the Fulbright Student program. It was funded through Critical Language Enhancement Award (CLEA) from 2007-2011. From 2012-13, it has been funded through a Language Training grant from ECA, Department of State. A total of 46 Fulbright grantees trained at Bangla Language Institute since 2007. The program is administered locally by the American Center staff at the US Embassy Dhaka.
Bangla Language Institute provides language training for the Fulbright grantees during the first two months of their 11-month grant period. The language training gives them an exposure to the life in Bangladesh and develop necessary language skills to complete their Fulbright assignments in Bangladesh more effectively.
